Give your dry skin a break {Tip}

You're probably wondering what is a girl with oily skin doing talking about dry skin, well, it just so happens that my mum has dry skin and over the years I've heard her complain or rave about this or that product.
Even though I have oily skin, I'm interested in all complexions and thought it would be useful to also share some tips I've learnt about other skin types.

How to take care of your dry skin:
* Choose a cream cleanser to thoroughly clean your skin.
Avoid oil-based products, those will clog your pores, you just want to remove the dirt, it's not a two-into-one step process, we'll restore the moistness later. If you choose to use a foam cleanser, look for the ones that are soap-free, otherwise they could dry your skin even more.

* Use a hydrating toner to seal your pores.
Colagen and hamamelis are great indredients because they help lock in the moist, retain it for longer and also have toning properties.

* Prefer rich moisturizing creams.
Soy, ginseng, jojoba and hyaluronic acid should be among the ingredients when choosing your face cream. Soy, among other things, has anti-aging properties.

* Scrub with caution.
You should help your skin get rid of (or at least control) flaky patches and general unevenness, but scrubbing means stripping the skin of its natual moistness so use the mildest scrub you can possibly can and don't use it more than two times a week. AVOID harsh, abrasive scrubs, those will only leave your skin feeling even more dehydrated.

* Sunscreen is a must, no matter what type of skin you have.
Look for broad spectrum sunscreens specifically made for your skin type, that way you'll get the most out of your product.

You mustn't neglect the eyes either. Go for the most hydrating cream you can find and don't skimp. We're talking about your eyes, those aren't to be toyed with.

* Prefiere cremas altamente humectantes.

* Exfolia con cuidado.

Tampoco debes descuidar tus ojos.

Some tips to keep your skin hydrated for a longer period of time:
#1 For your face makeup, choose light products, such as BB creams or tinted moisturizers that won't clutch to your driest areas and prefer satin or dewy finishes to "fake" the natural glow of normal skin.
#2 Use face masks regularly. To lower the cost in this department I suggest making them yourselves. Pumpkin, honey, milk and coconut water can be purchased at the grocery store to be eaten and drunk, but they can also be used on your face.
#3 Never ever go to sleep without properly cleansing your skin. You're probably using a few more products (heavy creams) than the average normal skin person, your face needs to be relieved from all that layering and get plenty of time to restore on its own.
#4 We are what we eat so pay close attention to what you're putting into your body. Prefer foods with high content of Omega 3 and Vitamins A and E, such as salmon, tuna, avocado, turkey, carrots and broccoli.
#5 Drink as much water as you need and avoid alcohol and caffeine if possible.

There you have it, hope this post was useful and if you try any of my suggestions please leave me a comment letting me know how they worked for you and if you have tips of your own do share them as well.

  11. These are excellent skin care tips.  I've been a loyal clarins user for years, and some time ago they suggested I try their lotus oil product, and I have combination skin.  1 try from the sample...yikes.  I stopped it immediately, it was counterintuitive...oil on oily skin?

  12. What a shame! Sometimes the counter sales person is of absolute no help at all. Because I don't look my age, often times they refuse to sell me anti-aging eye cream!!! LOL Now I tell them is for my mum so they don't try and sell me something else that I don't want : /

  15. I loved your skin tips!  My skin tends to be a little on the dry side.  With the cooler weather soon approaching I can feel I need to change my routine to compensate for that.  I am terrible about washing my fave at night and I should know better.  I sell Avon products and have some of the best products to use.  lol  I guess it's just being lazy sometimes.  That is my biggest fault when it comes to taking care of my skin.

  21. I like how you suggest about how food affects your skin too.  I have found that sugar really aggravates my skin.  Nice post! Thanks, Nancy from livininthegreen.blogspot.com

  22. I'm glad you found the post useful Nancy. Food really affects my skin too so I stay away from a lot of things in order to keep it as oil free as possible. I no longer eat red meat, bacon or deep fried food and I've noticed that my skin is significantly less oily/shiny.
    Thanks for stopping by! xx
